A HEALTH board has been criticised after branding a patient “demanding” on a social networking site, it has emerged.
Politicians and patient representatives have hit out at NHS Highland for having a “blatant disregard for patient care” after a post on Twitter last week. The tweet, which read: “Demanding patient – unrealistic expectations – the human body is not designed to last for ever,” was immediately condemned by one MSP for lacking “compassion”.
The SNP’s John Finnie replied on the social networking site: “At first, reading your tweet lacks any sense of compassion – not what the public expect.”
When no reply was forthcoming, the MSP for Highlands made a formal complaint to the board chairman, Garry Coutts.
NHS Highland has since apologised for any offence it may have caused, but has left the tweet on its page.
