Drink-driver jailed over roadside death

A DRINK-DRIVER has been jailed for six years for the killing of a political activist as he stood by his broken-down car.

Joseph Lavelle, 36, was two and a half times the drink-drive limit when he hit Alf Filer, 58, on the A27 in Hangleton, Hove, East Sussex, police said.

Mr Filer, a member of the Socialist Resistance, died at the scene on 23 June last year.
