SCOTTISH property agency Rettie & Co is expanding its presence south of the Border after taking over an estate agency in the northern-most town of England.
The residential chain will take on the business of Euan Aitchison in Berwick-upon-Tweed, with the operation to be renamed Rettie South from 1 October.
In addition to entering the Northumberland market, the move will also expand Rettie’s services in the Borders, where the company already has an office in Melrose.
The Berwick office will be led by Borders native Rob Taylor, who becomes managing partner of Rettie South.
Taylor’s CV includes spells with General Accident, Halifax and Sanderson Young before he joined Rettie’s Melrose office in 2009.
He said: “We are moving into an existing market, which has been well served by Euan Aitchison.
“Client feedback has already been very positive, with both sales and lettings properties now able to be exposed to a larger regional and national market.”
Aitchison will remain with the business until the end of the year.
The Berwick acquisition comes hot on the heels of Rettie’s entry into the Glasgow market, where the firm now has three branches following the opening of its office in Bearsden.
Set up by Simon Rettie in 1993, the Edinburgh-based chain now has a total of seven offices, including a branch in London.
