NEW exams which will replace GCSEs in England’s schools are expected to be unveiled tomorrow.
The UK government’s education secretary, Michael Gove, plans to introduce the qualification in 2015, which is being seen as a return to O-level-style exams.
Critics of GCSEs, which are not part of the Scottish system, have accused the qualifications of helping to “dumb down” education. The proportion of grades A*-C fell this year in England, the first fall since GCEs were introduced in 1988.
