Once upon a time, the groundbreaking Resident Evil horror games were genuinely frightening, but recently the series has morphed into a third-person shooter with horror trappings – a great game but not very scary.
Resident Evil 6
Capcom, PS3/Xbox 360, £37.99
Part 6 has three interlocking stories with a real-life or AI co-op partner (and a further solo story, with Ada Wong, to unlock). In fact there’s a ton of game (20+ hours) as you fight the zombie/mutant outbreak across the globe.
The Leon Kennedy levels are the closest to classic Res Evil, Chris Redfield’s are more shooter-based while Jake Muller’s the most acrobatic character available. However, the infuriating reliance on quick time events ruins the pace and just isn’t what Res Evil should be about.
