REPLYING to the challenge made by Sir Alexander MacEwen, the self-government candidate, to debate the Scottish Home Rule question with him, Mr Lindsay, the National Government candidate in the Kilmarnock by-election, said: “The real issue for electors at this by election is, are you in favour of supporting the National Government and its two years’ record of service? Do you wish it to continue its work of restoring confidence, increasing exports, and increasing employment for the people?
Or do you wish it to return to barren party politics? I am engaged every evening until the day of the poll in putting this issue before the electors of the Kilmarnock Division. I do not propose to break any engagement or be deflected from my main task. My business is with the electors. I am not the person to shirk a challenge, and I will debate the subject with Sir Alexander MacEwen any day after my main work is over.
