DRINKS firms Diageo, Chivas Brothers and Angus Dundee are to end their reliance on fuel oil and switch to gas with a new 16-mile pipeline linking four distilleries at The Glenlivet, Tormore, Cragganmore and Tomintoul with Scotland’s main gas network.
The £7.6 million underground pipe being installed by utility connection company Fulcrum is due for completion over 18 months.
“We expect the distilleries to be able to cut their energy costs by around 30 per cent and recoup their initial investment very quickly,” said Fulcrum sales and marketing director Richard Atkinson.
