THE first litter of Meishan pigs in the UK for 30 years have been born at a farm in the borders.
Linda and Graham McDonald-Brown, of Whauphill Farm, Dumfries and Galloway, bought the parents, Miep and Wrinkles, in the Netherlands and two weeks ago Miep gave birth to the litter of eight.
The rare breed is popular in China for its large ears and wrinkly faces - not too dissimilar to cartoon character Dumbo.
Linda, an author of two pig books, decided to breed the Meishans in 2011, after being introduced to the Chinese breed on a trip to the Netherlands.
Meishans were last seen in the UK over 30 years ago, when 20 pigs were imported from China by a British genetics company for research purposes.
