PART of Scotland’s publishing history will vanish for good at the end of this year, it was announced yesterday. Dictionary publishers Chambers Harrap said it will close its Edinburgh office on 31 December.
Responsibility for Harrap and Chambers titles will then move to publishers Larousse in Paris and to Hodder Education in London. The firm said: “Redundancy terms have been agreed with staff at Chambers Harrap who will start to leave over the next few weeks.”
Chambers Harrap, publishers of the Chambers Dictionary, announced the closure of its office in Hopetoun Crescent in September.
The firm is separating Chambers from Harrap, which publishes bilingual dictionaries, after both saw their sales decline. Chambers was established in 1819 by brothers William and Robert Chambers.
