THIS new Scottish League with Dundee and Morton at the top and Hibernians and Rangers well down the list is no bad thing for the game, whatever Easter Road or Ibrox supporters may contend.

The spread of interest is all to the good, though few doubt that both Hibs and Rangers will be challenging towards the end of the season. This present Ibrox side is far removed from the teams which for so long had an almost complete monopoly of Soccer honours. The day’s programme had many other points of interest – Heart of Midlothian’s home defeat by Partick Thistle in a high scoring game; Aberdeen’s fall to Third Lanark, and Dundee’s narrow win at Kirkcaldy to keep them at the top of the League table. A hat-trick by Morton’s Mochan against East Fife sees the Greenock challenge maintained and the critics who prophesied a short-lived success for the promoted Morton confounded.
