A DISINFECTANT that is harmless to humans but deadly to superbugs such as C difficile could be the latest weapon against the infections.
Scientists say the disinfectant, Akwaton, can destroy bacteria such as C diff – which has killed thousands of hospital patients in Britain in recent years – in much lower concentrations than existing cleaners.
C diff is notoriously hard to kill and can be spread on the hands of hospital staff who come into contact with infected patients. Tests in Winnipeg, Canada, showed Akwaton destroyed C diff spores in water, as well as on glass and steel.
