A HEALTHY diet has a long-term positive impact on well-being even when the dieter is tempted into putting puts a few pounds back on.
Researchers found Mediterranean and low-carb diets have lasting, healthy effects, even with partial weight regain.
The study by scientists in Israel was a follow-up to the landmark workplace-based Dietary Intervention Randomised Controlled Trial, a tightly controlled 24-month dietary intervention.
Doctor Dan Schwarzfuchs, of the Nuclear Research Centre, Negev, said: “Our follow-up subsequent data shows lasting, positive effects of Mediterranean and low-carbohydrate diets six years later.”
The results suggest that the lipid profile – lower cholesterol, triglycerides and arteriosclerosis – improved for the long term, regardless of partial regain.
